By

Canadians continued to dip into their wallets to buy up Avril Lavigne's latest album, "Under My Skin."

The 19-year-old Napanee native's sophomore CD remained the top of the Canadian album charts for a fourth consecutive week, selling 12,599 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan Canada.

Lavigne held off a strong debut from k.d. lang and her new disc "Hymns of the 49th Parallel," which entered the charts at No. 2 on sales of 9,200.

The Black Eyed Peas' "Elephunk" (8,400) moved up two spots to No. 3, edging out Usher's "Confessions" which dropped one position to No. 4.

The new soundtrack to the popular Quebec reality TV show "Star Academie" checked in at No. 5, Guns N' Roses "Greatest Hits" remained at No. 6, and the soundtrack to "A Cinderella Story" fell three to No. 7.

Van Halen's compilation, "The Best of Both Worlds," which had a solid debut last week at No. 2, plummeted six positions to No. 8 this week.

Evanescence's "Fallen" fell two to No. 9, and Pearl Jam's double-disc concert set "Live at Benaroya Hall" landed at No. 10 in its first week of release.

In the U.S., the compilation "Now 16" debuted at No. 1, followed by Ashlee Simpson's "Autobiography" in second, Taking Back Sunday's "Where You Want To Be" in third, Jimmy Buffett's "License to Chill" in fourth, and Usher in fifth.
