Lavigne plans spring return

Canadian pop queen Avril Lavigne has targeted April 17 as the release date for her brand new album "The Best Damn Thing," Billboard.com reports.

The lead single, "Girlfriend," will hit Canadian radio on March 5, and the video scheduled to premiere on February 26.

Billboard.com describes the song as similar in style to Toni Basil's "Mickey."

In a December post about the new album on her MySpace page, Lavigne wrote: "I wanted to make sure the songs were fun - fun for the fans and myself."

A slew of producers helped out with the new disc, including Lavigne's husband and Sum 41 frontman Deryk Whibley, Rob Cavallo (Green Day), Butch Walker (Pink), and Dr. Luke (Kelly Clarkson).

"The Best Damn Thing" is the follow-up to her 2004 sophomore effort, "Under My Skin."
