Lewis shocked by attack at book signing
By JANE STEVENSON -- Sun Media

British singer Leona Lewis got a nasty surprise during a book signing in London in October, when a 29-year-old man, later identified as south Londoner Peter Kowalczyk, punched her in the head.

"My head's OK," Lewis told Sun Media during an exclusive Canadian newspaper interview in Toronto.

"It was very shocking, but yeah, I'm OK. I'm still alive. That's the main thing. It was more of a shock, but I did get a bit of bruising. It's not nice at all."

Naturally, Lewis has became a bit more gun-shy about making public appearances.

"I was already kind of paranoid, so that didn't help."

The assailant, who was sectioned under the Mental Health act, was charged with assault but is currently not fit to stand trial.

"Mentally, he couldn't stand up in court, so he's been sectioned for six months, then they'll reasses him, if he's well enough," Lewis said.

It has been reported that Kowalczyk had a history of health problems and may have attacked Lewis because of jealousy, as he had unsuccessfully attempted to enter The X-Factor, the British TV talent show that Lewis won in 2006.
