LIBERATION TRANSMISSION
Transmission conks out

Lostprophets
Liberation Transmission
(Visible Noise/Sony BMG)

Lostprophets' name might make you think they wanna preach to the masses, but trust us -- the only prophets they're interested in are the ones spelled with an F.

And since you only get so many grabs at the brass ring, the Welshmen have decided to go for broke with their third album Liberation Transmission.

So they hired superstar producer Bob Rock. They recruited first-call session drummer Josh Freese. And most tellingly, they totally retooled their post-grunge sound for today's emo world, adding plenty of spindly guitars and yowling vocals and radio-friendly hooks and mile-long song titles like Broken Hearts, Torn Up Letters and the Story of a Lonely Girl. And just to complete the picture, they even dress in red, black and white like (International) Noise Conspiracy's little brothers.

"Make no mistake," warns Ian Watkins, "those smiles are fake."

Well, duh.
