Loverboy carries on after loss of bassist
By JANE STEVENSON -- Toronto SunBy JANE STEVENSON
The group, who have confirmed shows in Florida, Las Vegas, New York and Oklahoma over the next two months, began auditioning perspective bass players this week. Their tour is in support of a live CD to be released by Sony Legacy. Smith, 45, was steering his 11-metre sailboat off the coast of San Francisco when he was thrown overboard by an eight-metre wave. His body was never found and he is presumed drowned. Smith's two sailing companions, including his fiancee, were below deck when the accident occurred. In a press release this week, the band thanked "all of their fans, the media and the music industry for their overwhelming support ... The band, the Smith family and friends all received a great deal of comfort from your many letters, cards and phone calls." A toll-free line for messages to the band and family remains open at 1-888-829-8811. |
