Jesse Malin is a classic New York songwriter in that the city itself is a character in his songs. Like Lou Reed, Bruce Springsteen and Willy DeVille, he writes songs that romantically evoke Manhattan's bridges, trains and rooftops and the damaged characters that inhabit them.
