Shock rocker Marilyn Manson certainly put a scare into the Canadian album charts this week.
His latest effort, "The Golden Age Of Grotesque," debuted in the No. 1 spot with sales of 11,500, according to data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan.
It is Manson's first No. 1 album in Canada since 1998's "Mechanical Animals," which premiered in the top position with first week sales of 26,600. His last studio album, 2000's "Holy Wood (In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death)," peaked at No. 13 in its first week, garnering sales of 12,000.
Manson also grabbed the No. 1 spot south of the border, selling 118,100 copies of "The Golden Age Of Grotesque" in the U.S.
Elsewhere in the Canadian top 10, "The Matrix Reloaded OST" (10,000) and 50 Cent's "Get Rich Or Die Tryin'" (8,200) both moved up a notch to second and third respectively, and Sean Paul's "Dutty Rock," powered by his hit single "Get Busy," continued it's climb up the charts, moving from eighth to fourth.
Norah Jones, which reclaimed her No. 1 position last week with her album "Come Away With Me," (7,830) sank down to fifth this week. Evanescence's "Fallen" (7,800) remained in sixth, White Stripes' "Elephant" (6,100) held steady in seventh, and Avril Lavigne's "Let Go" (6,000) moved from ninth to eighth.
Celine Dion's "One Heart" (5,800) skipped a beat this week, falling from second to ninth, and La Chicane's "Ent' Nous Autres" (5,500) entered in at No. 10.
Other notable debuts included Third Eye Blind's "Out Of The Vein" at No. 29, Cold's "Year Of The Spider" at No. 50, and Alkaline Trio's "Good Mourning" at No. 77.
In The U.S., 50 Cent placed second followed by Cold in third, Evanescence in fourth, and "The Matrix Reloaded OST" in fifth.
