Former MuchMusic VJ Master T is now a music mogul.
Virgin Music Canada has inked a deal with the urban-music icon to launch a series of compilations highlighting the best in reggae, R&B, hip-hop, and calypso from around the world.
Each of the discs will feature new songs from Canadian and international independent artists, Virgin said.
"It's an amazingly wonderful feeling to be a part of the EMI/Virgin family. It feels like a natural progression in my career," Master T (real name: Tony Young) said in a press release. "I'll have the opportunity to continue to move the urban music industry forward".
EMI Music Canada president Deane Cameron said the label's Virgin division signed on with Master T because of his "unbridled creativity, coupled with his tremendous experience within the media". He hinted that the compilations would be just the beginning of "many exciting projects."
Master T's first release will be a reggae compilation due out in early summer.
