Down in St. Louis lives a woman named Big Clara McDaniel, a blues singer of some renown.
She's called Big because she is big, at least by Maxim magazine standards, but her largeness extends beyond the physical. For the last quarter-century or so of her 45 years on this earth she's been a St. Louis blues icon, taken under Albert King's and Lightnin' Slim's tutelage long ago and let loose in a world that, at some points, had the eyes and ears of everyone in the know.
