Album Review: Reba McEntire

SO GOOD TOGETHER
By FISH GRIWKOWSKY

SO GOOD TOGETHER
Reba McEntire
(Universal)

After wading through a bunch of delightful product placement while trying to simply play this beast on my PC, Reba finally hits the speakers.

Hm. Too bad. It's not such a treat this time around. We're So Good Together, the opener, is one of those annoying Reba songs, part cheap Disney, part impure speed trip, all in the name of making you forget she ever did such a brilliant cover of Fancy.

Her Christmas album is actually much better than this drivel. Everything here is simply too orchestrated, too Broadway, even too sappy to be called hot country or anything better than tasteless mom music.

I'll Be sounds like a Neil Diamond reject, What Do You Say is some kind of limp diatribe against the fascinating dark edge of humanity and there are way too many tearjerkers.

C'mon, Reba, the world may not be around in a month. Let's say we whoop it up a little and quit sulking!

Take my hand and spin me around the room, you gorgeous redhead. Leave the piano-heavy power ballads to Elton John and let loose more of that energy you have in concert.

Ah, who am I to give orders to the rich?

Feel free to skip this one, unless you feel like crying uncontrollably till next Tuesday.
