Album Review: McGraw, Tim

SET THIS CIRCUS DOWN
By JAMES O'CONNER

SET THIS CIRCUS DOWN
Tim McGraw
(Curb/Universal)

It looks like little Timmy took a leap of faith on his latest album. Indeed, fans of this former Most Eligible Bachelor Dude in Country Music will be the only ones who might enjoy the watered-down country-shlock this whiner has to offer on his sixth CD. Those who recall McGraw's early hits -- Indian Outlaw, Refried Dreams, the rowdy anthem I Like It, I Love It -- will find he's folded his musical tent to become the Perry Como of the c'boy crowd. The only satisfying moment is the single Grown Men Don't Cry. The rest is pure evil. McGraw even enters the confessional on Things Change: "Things change / Don't you know they change ... They can't keep me from change / Keep on, keep on changin'." Keep the faith, Timmy ...
