Sarah McLachlan can now add "mother" to her list of accomplishments.
The singer's official website (www.sarahmclachlan.com) confirmed Monday that she and husband Ashwin Sood gave birth to a baby girl, named India.
India arrived on Saturday, April 6th. Both mother and daughter are said to be doing well, although no other details were released.
McLachlan had taken time out from her recording and touring schedule to start a family, although work had begun on her next studio album.
In December, McLachlan's manager and label boss Terry McBride told JAM! Music that the singer had completed nine songs for the new record, her first since 1997's "Surfacing."
Work on the album was done in Los Angeles, Morin Heights, PQ and at her home studio, but the singer took a six-month break from working on the record to focus on childbirth and also to deal with her mother's serious illness.
McBride said he was still hopeful the new album would be ready for 2002, but said there was a 25% chance the hiatus would push the album to 2003.
The manager, who said he had heard the completed the material, described the intended first single as "a dynamite song" and "probably the biggest song of this girl's career," and added that he believed McLachlan will emerge from her time outside the limelight and "shock people" with the pent-up demand for her music.
