Imagine the shock of tearing open the plastic on Christian Mena's new CD, Seemore, expecting to hear a spicy helping of smokin' Latin party music he was once known for in !Maracujah!, maybe some show tunes inspired by his triumphant stint in Rent, perhaps even lilting mountain music from his Chilean homeland - but instead getting the sort of jingle-jangly "share-your-feelings" light rock of the sort you might hear on 96-X.
Mena's new direction will be unveiled with a show tomorrow night at the Ukrainian National Federation Hall - talk about your cultural melting pot here. There is no law, by the way, that states that just because you're a handsome young man from a Latin American country you have to sound like Enrique Iglesias. In fact, there should be a law against it. Anyway, Mena has also released a Spanish version of the record, mainly because he can, and just to cover his bases.
