Bosstones better with beer
By DAVE VEITCH

PAY ATTENTION
Mighty Mighty Bosstones
(UNI/MERCURY/POLYGRAM)

You can always rely on The Mighty Mighty Bosstones for delivering high-energy party music, which explains their status as frat-house favourites.

But with their latest album, it's becoming increasing obvious this Boston octet have plateaued in the immediate vacinity of mediocrity.

Their punk-rock riffing remains strictly pedestrian, their reggae rhythms surprisingly stilted, their songwriting functional but hardly inspired.

Still, that's preferable to their clumsy stab at Celtic-rock on the dire Riot on Broad Street, which would make Great Big Sea break out in howls of derisive laughter.

Hence why the Bosstones are best enjoyed after consuming a keg or two.
