Lynn Miles performs for charity
By -- Sun Media

Lynn Miles will also be playing Saturday evening, in Wakefield. But while that night, like every night with the superior singer-songwriter, will be special, Miles would like to draw our attention to her return to the Black Sheep Inn the following afternoon.

"We'll be doing two sets in the round," Miles says of the show that will feature the trading of songs between herself, fellow local institution Ian Tamblyn and ringer Eliza Gilkyson. "It'll be the three of us, plus Eliza is bringing a guitar player ... and a dog that apparently bows after each song."

Bows will be taken and songs presented in aid of Project Chance Africa, a charitable organization dedicated to providing aid to students in Nairobi's Muthare slums, an area in which some 500,000 people struggle for survival.

"Aid organizations do not go there," Miles notes, "so the only chance children have of getting three meals a day is through school. The goal is to raise enough money -- $60,000 -- to buy the school and keep it running."

Proceeds from the songwriters' circle will go toward that goal, as will money raised via an afternoon auction. Items on offer include everything from Ottawa Folk Festival passes to a limited edition Ken Danby print.

"I'll be the auctioneer," Miles states with pride. "There's a lot of cool stuff available, and every little bit helps."
