Aussie pop star Kylie Minogue is set to release music again.
After her departure last year from London based dance label DeConstruction Records, it was rumoured the actress/singer was going to hang up her microphone for good.
The Press Association, out of the UK, is reporting that Minogue has signed a deal with Parlophone Records, part of the EMI stable of labels. Other notable Parlophone acts include Supergrass and Pet Shop Boys who Kylie has just finished dueting with on the track 'In Denial'.
According to the PA, Minogue should commence recording of her new album shortly, with new material possible before the end of the year. Whether she's call on big league writing partners like she has in the past is still to be determined. Since leaving the Stock Aitken Waterman pop juggernaut in the early 90s, Minogue has worked and written with artists like Pet Shop Boys, Brothers In Rhythm and the Manic Street Preachers.
While her future European releases were in doubt, Kylie remains signed to Mushroom Records in Australia - the Rupert Murdoch owned label where she started over a decade ago. After her Deconstruction split, unfounded rumours floated around that she would sign the Mushroom Records UK.
Known primarily for her sugar-coated pop songs of the late 80s/early 90s - 'Locomotion,' 'I Should Be So Lucky,' 'Better The Devil You Know' - Kylie released two albums on DeConstruction - 'Kylie Minogue' (1994) and 'Impossible Princess'/'Kylie Minogue' (1997) attempting to build some "indie cred".
A third album of remixes from 'Impossible Princess' - entitled 'Impossible Remixes' - was released, but to little fanfare or success. Of the DeConstruction releases, only the 1994 disc has been available domestically in Canada - albeit with a Canadian only bonus track, a french version of 'Confide In Me' called 'Confide Dans Moi'.
No word yet on which international territories the Parlophone deal covers. In the meantime, Kylie has recorded 'The Reflex' with fellow Aussie Ben Lee for part of an Australian only Duran Duran tribute album. No word on release dates for that project, either.
