Album Review: Minogue, Kylie

SHOWGIRL HOMECOMING LIVE
Unwelcome Homecoming

Kylie Minogue
Showgirl Homecoming Live
(Parlophone/EMI)

Hey, we like Kylie Minogue as much as the next guy. And we know the Aussie dance-pop princess hasn't had the easiest time of it lately, what with the health crises and romantic setbacks.

Even so, we gotta admit we aren't exactly thrilled at the prospect of yet another live-greatest hits offering from Minogue -- who has put out both a Showgirls live DVD and an Ultimate Kylie CD/DVD anthology since her last studio album.

Admittedly, Showgirl Homecoming Live does deliver the best of both worlds, with two CDs of hits recorded at a Sydney show in November. It's got everything from a burlesque version of The Loco-Motion to newer bump 'n' grinders like Slow. It's got covers of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Madonna's Vogue. It's even got a cameo from Bono.

What it doesn't have, ridiculously, is video. And let's face it: The world needs live CDs from Kylie the same way it needs radio shows about actual Showgirls.

Wait for the DVD.
