NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Serious is selling again in the country music industry. And an old-fashioned tear-jerker is shaping up as one of the year's most talked-about country singles.
John Michael Montgomery's The Little Girl, written by Nashville songwriter Harley Allen, is a song about child abuse, murder and suicide. An orphaned girl sees a picture of Jesus while attending Sunday School for the first time. She identifies him as the man who comforted her as she hid behind a couch on the night her father killed her mother and then himself.
