Alanis Morissette, fiancee split
By ANN MARIE McQUEEN - Ottawa Sun

Maybe one of them just saw too much. On her 2004 album So-Called Chaos, Alanis Morissette's popular single Everything seemed to sum up her happy relationship with fiancee Ryan Reynolds.

"You see everything/you see every part," she sang. "You see all my light/and you love my dark."

But in new issues out today both People and Us Weekly are reporting the 32-year-old Ottawa songwriting superstar and the Vancouver-born actor, her boyfriend of four years and fiancee of two, have split.

Reps for both Reynolds and Morissette did not return Sun calls yesterday; neither did the singer's brother or parents.

The pair have apparently not been publicly photographed together since February, with Us reporting Reynolds and Morissette might be seeing other people.

One source told the magazine Morissette was possibly dating a relationship coach while Reynolds has hooked up with a personal trainer.

The magazine reported the 29-year-old actor had also recently been "sending flirty emails to a female friend."

"He isn't acting like a man who's engaged," said their source.

In an infrequent entry on her website diary Monday, Morissette said she is taking a break from work in Maldives, a group of islands in the Indian Ocean, and doesn't mention Reynolds. She starts out by writing "so many things unfolding, percolating, bubbling up, hard to know where to begin..." and later refers to buying a Triumph motorcycle and getting a licence to drive it.

In her previous entry, Jan. 2, she lists "growing in my relationship with ryan (sic), thereby becoming a way better person" as one of her favourite things about 2005.

Morissette is fresh off a one-week, late-May run on the London stage portraying death-row survivor Sunny Jacobs in a production of The Exonerated with Pirates of the Caribbean actor Mackenzie Crook.

In an interview with the London Guardian three weeks ago to promote the play, Morissette was still talking as though there would be a wedding even though it had been put off several times.

"I thought a few months ago we'd be married by now," she said. "I hadn't realized how complicated it was to pull off a wedding, but I already feel like he's my husband. I call him my husband."

The couple first met in 2002 at Drew Barrymore's birthday party, though they didn't get together immediately because Morissette was with someone else.

The pair got engaged in 2004 shortly after Morissette's June 1 birthday. Reynolds slipped away from their home in Vancouver and flew to Ottawa and back to secure her father's permission -- unbeknownst to Morissette -- before popping the question.

Several months later Morissette told the Sun she had a million ideas about how to tie the knot, joking about a public ceremony on Parliament Hill.
