Alanis plays lesbian on 'Nip/Tuck'
By ANN MARIE MCQUEEN - Ottawa Sun

Alanis Morissette, who shared a spin-the-bottle kiss with Sarah Jessica Parker on Sex and the City, will now play a lesbian lover on FX’s Nip/Tuck.

The Ottawa native is set to guest star on the drama series during a three-story arc beginning Oct. 31. Morissette will play Poppy, the love interest of Dr. Liz Cruz, portrayed by series regular Roma Maffia.

Cruz plays the sarcastic head anesthesiologist for two Miami plastic surgeons, Sean McNamara, played by Dylan Walsh, and Christian Troy, played by Julian McMahon, at the show’s core.

The singing star, who has reportedly reunited with her Vancouver-born boyfriend, actor Ryan Reynolds, appears to be otherwise laying low. Her Maverick Records’ MySpace site said yesterday “Alanis will be taking a hiatus and will not be touring or recording anytime soon.”

On her own website Morissette recently talked about motorcycle riding and ordering herself a high-performance Italian-manufactured Ducati.

“Nothing about my lifestyle seems to be recognizable these days,” she wrote in August. “This seems to be a very good thing.”

Morissette has acted periodically throughout the decade since her breakthrough 1995 album Jagged Little Pill, tackling the London stage, an off-Broadway production and playing everyone from God in Kevin Smith’s film Dogma to herself on Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Morissette joins celebrities such as Rosie O’Donnell, Brooke Shields and Kathleen Turner in guesting on Nip/Tuck. CTV carries the show in Canada but has not announced when it plans to begin airing the fourth season.
