Motorhead
Kiss of Death
(Sanctuary/EMI)
There aren't many things you can count on in this world. But Motorhead is one of them. Other artists are constantly trying to change their sound; we doubt Lemmy has changed his underwear since the '70s. He sure hasn't messed with his music.
As anyone who's been paying attention knows, there are basically three kinds of Motoerhead songs: The speed-demon barnburners, the slow grinders and the boogie-rockers. That's how it's always been, how it's always gonna be -- and how it is on the band's latest Kiss of Death.
You know the drill: The boys crank everything louder than everything else while Lemmy throws his head back, fires up his chainsaw pipes and howls junior-high double entendres about flicking your switch and pulling your trigger and digging your ditch.
There are a couple of unexpected turns -- notably the acoustic guitar ballad God Was Never on Your Side and the tempo-shifting Kingdom of the Worm -- but the rest of Kiss of Death is as Motorhead as Motorhead gets.
Count on it.
