Album Review: 'N Sync

CELEBRITY
By JANE STEVENSON

CELEBRITY
NSYNC
(Zomba-Jive)

The famed Florida fivesome kick their credibility up a few notches with their latest pop collection, in stores Tuesday, with members Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez co-writing and co-producing 10 of the 13 tracks between them.

The general vibe is more urban and polished -- with some help from co-producers like Rodney Jerkins and Brian McKnight.

Standouts are the midtempo Girlfriend and Do Your Thing, the two-step dance song The Two Of Us and the ballad Gone.

NSYNC also take aim at their critics (Pop), hangers-on (Celebrity) and no-good girls (The Game Is Over, See Right Through You) without losing their sense of fun or stylish five-part harmonies.

Too bad they move into crass territory on the dance song Up Against The Wall.

Also back is previous collaborator Max Martin, who supplies the uptempo Tell Me, Tell Me ... Baby, which frankly could just as easily be a Backstreet Boys song as it could an NSYNC number.

Stevie Wonder also appears, playing harmonica on the ballad Something Like You.
