"I replaced addiction with addiction," admits the outspoken 28-year-old singer, who is giving an all-ages show at the Republik on Monday as well as a licensed one on Tuesday.
"It was an interesting phase I went through. I wasn't looking like myself. My goal was to have almost no body fat, so I would keep track of every single calorie in everything I ate. I would write it down -- even if I only had a small latte -- and figure out how long I'd have to work on the Stairmaster, or whatever, to burn it off."
Naked says she became very insecure and felt her body shape and weight was the one thing she could control.
"I think I've chilled out," she says.
"I don't have time to be that obsessive about it. I'm in a comfortable headspace. The reason I work out now is for health and de-stressing."
This doesn't mean buff Bif doesn't freak out once in a while, especially when the cameras are rolling or clicking.
"Of course after saying all this, I have a photo shoot in New York on Friday, which means I'll be eating popcorn for dinner for the next week," she says laughing.
The Vancouver-based performer has just enjoyed the most successful year in her 11-year career thanks mostly to nonstop touring and the hit single, Spaceman, from her latest CD, I Bificus.
On the CD, Spaceman is a sweeping guitar-based pop-rock song, but it was when the song was re-mixed as a dance tune that it became a club, video and radio staple last year.
"I've always been a big fan of remixes," Naked says, explaining her decision to add dance beats to the song. "I listen to a lot of different kinds of music. I like variety."
Naked does have plans to go back into the studio sometime soon, but says she can't get away from the thrill of a live show, even though she admits she is still prone to bouts of stagefright.
"I only stopped (vomiting) before I went on about two years ago. But the shows are worth it."
