How Ironic, Part 19: Musicians during the '70s and '80s went to great lengths and expense to acquire technology that would eventually put many of them out of work.

The peak of this trend was the birth of the "DJ as rock star," glorified record-spinners who often get more attention and draw larger crowds than any mid-level rock band. Some people think DJs should be cast into the pits of hell for this sin against nature, but they are simply filling a demand. If a rock band can't do it, tough.
