Ex-Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has joined British dance-rock pioneers New Order, according to Britain's New Musical Express.

Corgan will perform with the band at Japan's Fuji Festival in July, as well as on their North American tour with Moby's Area:One Festival.

He'll also join the band at a secret show being planned for the U.K. for either late June or early July, the magazine said.

Corgan also performs on the band's new album, "Get Ready". He appears on the song "Turn My Way." The album is scheduled for release in August.

"Billy has been a New Order fan for years, and used to come and see us every time we played Chicago when he was about 17 or something. We've known him since then, and I just rang him up to see if he wanted to do this track," New Order singer Bernard Sumner told NME.

Corgan was asked to accompany the band to replace keyboardist Gillian Gilbert. She has taken a "sabbatical" from the band to care for her daughter (with drummer Stephen Morris), who is recovering from an illness, NME said. (More on New Order)
