TORONTO -- Fresh off back-to-back multi-platinum albums, Canadian mega-group Nickelback shocked fans on Wednesday by announcing that drummer Ryan Vikedal is leaving the band.

In a statement released through their record label, the Vancouver-based foursome wished Vikedal "all the best in his future endeavors" and added that "no replacement for Vikedal has been named."

Vikedal was the last member to join the band, prior to their 1999 release "The State." The Edmonton native formerly played in a country-blues trio called The Corb Lund Band.

Nickelback are currently working on the follow up to last year's multi-platinum album, "The Long Road" and were not available for comment.
