Canadian music stores continued to suffer from the post-Christmas blues after album sales tumbled again the final week of '08, and the first few days of '09.
According to figures compiled by Nielsen SoundScan, almost all of the artists in the top 10 saw their sales decrease significantly, with Britney Spears and AC/DC taking the biggest hit on the album charts.
Britney's "Circus," No. 1 last week, dipped from 30,000 to 8,100 this week -- a massive drop of 73 per cent. Despite the big fall, "Circus" managed to only drop three spots to No. 3.
AC/DC's "Black Ice" took a similar blow, sinking from No. 3 to No. 8 with sales of 5,400, compared to 30,000 last week -- a drop of 74 per cent.
At the top, Nickelback's "Dark Horse" moved into No. 1 from No. 2, with sales falling 69 per cent from last week to just under 9,000 copies.
Right on their tail was Lady GaGa's "The Fame," which jumped five spots to No. 2 with 8,200 in sales, while the "MuchDance 2009" compilation came up one to No. 4, trading positions with Taylor Swift's "Fearless," which slipped to No. 5.
The "Twilight" soundtrack made a huge rebound, flying up seven notches to No. 6, and Kanye West's "808s & Heartbreak" rose one position to No. 7.
Rounding out the top 10 was Akon's "Freedom" at No. 9, and Beyonce's "I Am... Sasha Fierce" at No. 10.
In the U.S., Taylor Swift claimed the top spot, followed by Beyonce in second, Kanye West in third, the "Twilight" soundtrack in fourth, and Nickelback in fifth.
