Album Review: 120 Days

120 DAYS
Nice Days
By -- Winnipeg Sun

120 Days
120 Days
(Smalltown Supersound-Vice/Warner)

They fuse jagged guitars and pumping drums with icily throbbing synths, clattering beatboxes and yearning vocals. They make darkly stylish music that rocks -- but is indisputably hypnotic and danceable.

And of course, their sound bears the unmistakable stamp of Joy Division, New Order and Kraftwerk.

Despite all this, 120 Days are not just another bunch of dandies trying to ride the dance-rock bandwagon to the land of milk and money. Yes, these Oslo upstarts are heading in the same general direction as their fashionable brethren.

But on their exceptional self-titled debut, they take an alternate and more scenic route, crafting epic-length tracks that patiently but deliberately cruise toward their destination like a sleek roadster on the Autobahn.

Sit back and enjoy the ride.
