Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher told the Australia Herald-Sun newspaper today that he initially thought he had been stabbed when he was attacked onstage last month during the Virgin Festival at Toronto's Island Park.
"I remember being hit really hard, I didn't see him come on stage or get led off, I just got hit," Gallagher told the newspaper.
After realizing no knives were involved in the attack, Gallagher shunned medical advice to go directly to hospital and continued playing after a short break.
"I had an almighty pain in my side. I was being silly, it got to the point where I went 'F--- it, I can't do this' and got taken straight to hospital."
The assailant, Daniel Sullivan, 47, was charged with assault and remanded until Oct. 24.
Gallagher, who hasn't watched the various YouTube clips of the attack, refused to comment specifically on the incident with charges pending, but definitely got his own shots in concerning Sullivan.
"He's 47 and got three children, if you can believe that," Gallagher said. "He's obviously gone through a midlife crisis. I wouldn't get in and analyze it too deeply, that's for a lawyer to do. I don't know why people do things like that."
And Gallagher, who is still on pain medication for three "broken and dislodged ribs," definitely didn't keep mum when it came to the security during the event, specifically the band's own.
"We've got enough security guards as it is," Gallagher said. "If they had been doing their f---ing job properly instead of playing air guitar I'd be alright."
Oasis recently announced that the two North American dates for London, Ont. and New York City are rescheduled for mid-December. The London show, set for the John Labatt Centre, will take place Dec. 15. Tickets for the original date will be honoured at the upcoming show.
Meanwhile, Oasis wants to dig out your soul a bit earlier than scheduled.
The group placed its new studio album Dig Out Your Soul online through Myspace yesterday for streaming prior to the Oct. 7 release date.
The stream was originally set to begin on Tuesday but, according to the band's website Oasisinet.com, the album playback was delayed "due to unforeseen circumstances."
As of 2 p.m. Eastern yesterday, the total number of times songs were listened to on the site neared 164,000 since the streaming started. The songs The Turning as well as Get Off Your High Horse Lady were the most popular with nearly 20,000 and 11,500 listens, respectively.
