Our Lady Peace and Chantal Kreviazuk will headline a free concert at The Forks to benefit War Child Canada on Sept. 8, 2001, organizers said yesterday.
Our Lady Peace, which is led by Kreviazuk's husband, singer Raine Maida, is one of Canada's most successful rock acts of the past decade, having sold more than a million albums in this country alone.
Kreviazuk, meanwhile, is a hometown girl who was one the bill at the first War Child concert last September, which was headlined by The Tragically Hip. This past winter, Kreviazuk and Maida travelled to Iraq with War Child Canada executive director Dr. Samantha Nutt.
Last year's concert drew more than 80,000 people to The Forks and raised more than $160,000 in on-site donations for the cause. Organizers hope to earn at least that much from this year's show.
The concert will be the final Spiritfest Concert for Causes event, marking the end of a highly successful concert series at The Forks. More artists will be added to the bill shortly, organizers said.
