Concert Review: Our Lady Peace

Live 8, Barrie - July 2, 2005
Peace given their chance
By JASON MACNEIL -- Special to The Toronto Sun

BARRIE - Our Lady Peace, led by singer Raine Maida, opened with a new take on Leonard Cohen's Bird On A Wire, with Maida adding the lyric, "Like Africa, without any hope, it's time that we make this up to you."

Maida tore into the galloping, big and bombastic Where Are You, the new single from Healthy In Paranoid Times, their forthcoming album.

The track, while not well-known since it's been out only a few days, was a powerful track, with bassist Duncan Coutts adding harmony vocals.

The song concluded with "This could be the best day of your life!" and Maida asked people to keep the pressure on Prime Minister Paul Martin.

Canadian flag in hand, Maida started Innocent with all singing along.

"Sing for Africa!" Maida shouted before ending. The crowd obeyed.
