Pearl Jam's latest album "Backspacer" took a giant leap forward on the album charts this week.
Eddie Vedder and co.'s ninth studio album jumped from No. 14 to No. 1 in its second week of release, selling just under 20,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan data. (It only had one day of tabulations last week, since it was released on a Sunday.)
Their last effort, 2006's "Pearl Jam," came in at No. 2 selling 37,000, and 2002's "Riot Act" got as high as No. 4, with 20,000 copies sold.
The Seattle rockers also grabbed the No. 1 spot south of the border, selling 189,000 copies of "Backspacer" in the U.S.
Back here, Three Days Grace's third disc "Life Starts Now" (14,000) entered in at No. 2, and French artist Marie-Mai's "Version 3.0" (12,000) premiered at No. 3.
Jay-Z's "The Blueprint 3" and the Black Eyed Peas' "The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies)" both dropped two positions to No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, and Muse, after coming in on top last week, went down to No. 6.
Rounding out the top 10 was Lights' "The Listening" at No. 7, Sean Kingston's "Tomorrow" at No. 8, Whitney Houston's "I Look to You" at No. 9, and David Guetta's "One Love" at No. 10.
In the U.S., Jay-Z came in second, followed by Three Days Grace in third, Whitney Houston in fourth, and Miley Cyrus in fifth.
