Katy Perry went to bed hoping for a number one debut on the Canadian album charts and guess what – her dream came true.
The 25-year-old pop star's second studio effort, "Teenage Dream," shot to No. 1 on sales of over 26,000, according to figures compiled by Nielsen SoundScan.
It far surpassed the sales of her first disc "One of the Boys," which came in at No. 8 with sales of 4,000 copies in June of 2008.
She also nabbed the No. 1 position stateside, tallying 192,000 copies of "Teenage Dream" in the U.S., according to Billboard.com.
Back here, Eminem's "Recovery" held at No. 2, while last week's No. 1 album, Iron Maiden's "Final Frontier" (5,100), slipped two spots to No. 3, after ringing up 17,200 in sales in Week 1.
Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs" dropped one notch to No. 4, while Stratford, Ont., phenomenon Justin Bieber's "My World 2.0" rebounded one to No. 5.
Ke$ha's "Animal" moved up two to No. 6, Avenged Sevenfold's "Nightmare" went the other way, dropping two to No. 7, and Adam Lambert's "For Your Entertainment" occupied the No. 8 slot.
Rounding out the top 10 was Lady Gaga's "The Fame" at No. 9, and Ray LaMontagne & the Pariah Dogs' "Good Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise" at No. 10.
In the U.S., Fantasia's "Back to Me" came in second, followed by Eminem in third, Usher's "Versus" in fourth, and Little Big Town's "The Reason Why" in fifth.
