CASTLES
Kings of the 'Castles'By ALLAN WIGNEY -- Ottawa Sun
The Philosopher Kings Castles (Sony BMG) Has it really been over six years since we last heard from Canada's rock-and-soul Kings? And do the men responsible for such music-scene litter as Prozzak and FeFe Dobson deserve another chance? But of course. For, while The Philosopher Kings will never be tagged with the label 'groundbreaking,' they still have a knack for penning toe-tapping blue-eyed-soul songs. Maroon 5 wish they could craft a falsetto-filled faux-Stevie Wonder track as sharp as Beautiful Creature. (So, for that matter, does this year's INXS.) And the poppy I Want You sure sounds like a hit to these ears. Moreover, as veterans of the game, the Kings are savvy enough to never let the production get in the way of the sound of five guys playing essentially live in the studio. The result is an album that sounds just fine now, as it would have a decade ago and as it will a decade from now. Who needs to break new ground when the formula still ain't broke? Track Listing:
1. Castles In The Sand
