Album Review: Pink

M!SSUNDAZTOOD
By JANE STEVENSON

Pink
M!ssundaztood
(Arista/BMG)

Don't judge this rising 22-year-old star by her contribution to that horrible remake of the LaBelle '70s smash Lady Marmalade with Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim and Mya.

Pink's a breath of fresh air on her latest album, a bold, playful, often starkly personal collection that includes the infectious dance hit Get The Party Started, written and produced with Linda Perry, formerly of 4 Non Blondes.

Perry, who weighs in on eight of 14 tracks, is also involved in five other standouts -- the fun empowerment anthem and funky hip-hop ride Respect, the slinky confessionals Dear Diary and My Vietnam and the sad and reflective Eventually and Lonely Girl.

Overall, the followup to Pink's 2000 breakthrough debut, Can't Take Me Home, finds her moving further away from R&B-pop on such rock-infused tracks as Don't Let Me Get Me, Just Like A Pill, 18 Wheeler and Numb.

As Pink -- real name Alicia Moore -- sings on Don't Let Me Get Me: "Tired of being compared, to damn Britney Spears/ She's so pretty, that just ain't me."

Other songs worth a listen are the soul-searching Family Portrait, which recalls a harder Mary J. Blige sound, and the soul ballad Misery, featuring Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. Bizkit's remixes sound Limp
