THE VERY BEST OF ...
By MIKE BELL

THE VERY BEST OF ...
The Pogues

You could either run around in a circle for 15 minutes or roll down a hill. Or you could pick up this definitive collection (barring a box set) of the most rum-soaked, cigarette-stained Celtic punk band there ever was.

There have been other compilations of The Pogues' material, but The Very Best Of ... really is what it says.

Packed with tracks (six of the 21) from the band's finest record, the Elvis Costello-produced sophomore disc Rum, Sodomy & The Lash, there isn't one bad song in the bunch.

Dirty Old Town, The Old Main Drag, Fiesta, Boys From The County Hell, Sally MacLennane, and especially the back-to-back A Rainy Night In Soho and London Girl -- it's enough to make anyone's Irish eyes smile ... that is if they're not too bloodshot and sleep-encrusted from one too many closing times. (More on: The Pogues).
