Poison's new one not that bad for you
By IAN NATHANSON
CRACK A SMILE ... AND MORE! Poison (EMD/CAPITOL) Be afraid, be very afraid! The "lost" Poison tapes have been uncovered. Okay, it's actually a 1994 12-track recording that was never released, what with lead singer Bret Michaels in a car accident and the glam-rockers pretty much on the skids at that time. Six years later, a reunited Poison are back on the touring circuit and out pops Crack A Smile, expanded into 20 songs with B-sides, rarities, outtakes and bonus tracks from the band's 1990 MTV Unplugged appearance (Your Mama Don't Dance, Talk Dirty To Me, Unskinny Bop and Every Rose Has Its Thorn). After you finish drooling (or gagging) at the Unplugged stuff (and bypass their inebriated version of Dr. Hook's Cover of the Rolling Stone), give the rest of Crack A Smile a listen. It's not bad; the atmosphere certainly sounds free from the pressures of Poison's serious music career. Wait ... Unskinny Bop, serious music? I reiterate: Be afraid, be very afraid! Track Listing
