Bowie cultivates Polyphonic Spree
We were disappointed that Macy Gray wasn't going to open for David Bowie in Edmonton - until we delved into the band that is: Polyphonic Spree.

It's a 25-member "choral symphonic pop" group from Dallas, Texas, led by former Tripping Daisy front man, Tim DeLaughter. In an example of joy sprung from despair, he formed Polyphonic Spree from the ashes of his band, split in 1999 after guitarist Wes Berggren died of a drug overdose.

How many people are in The Polyphonic Spree? Too many for even the band members to count.

"I always say 20-something, but I'm not quite sure. Yesterday (bandleader) Tim (DeLaughter) said 26, but I don't know if that's right," admits trombonist James Reimer.
