DESTROY WHAT YOU ENJOY
Powerman not powerful

Powerman 5000
Destroy What You Enjoy
(DRT/Universal)

You can pick your heroes. You can pick your band. You can pick your hairstyle. But you can't pick your family. And if your family happens to be a rock star, you can't totally pick your sound.

Powerman 5000 frontman Spider is living proof. He's Rob Zombie's little brother -- but judging by his blond spikes, curled lip and padlock necklace, now he wants to be Billy Idol's stepson.

His fifth full-length release Destroy What You Enjoy -- which ditches the sci-fi shtik and keyboards of old for a guitar-fuelled rock attack -- is the soundtrack to his latest personality crisis. Half the time he's grinding out rubberized riff-metal and barking like a devil dog. The rest of the time he's punching the air and sneering over recycled Pistols licks. And in the end, the two sides seem to cancel each other out.

We doubt that's what he meant by that title -- but hey, he picked it.
