SATURDAY PEOPLE
Prozzak
(Sony)
As long as you don't take the cartoon creations Simon and Milo ( Jay Levine and James McCollum of The Philosopher Kings in real life), too terribly seriously, you'll enjoy their fun schtick.
Look no further than the comically flirtatious Feed The Night with its lyrics: "Your bod is so delicious, your kisses are nutritious, your buns are bubbaliscious, I fancy your design."
In other words, this 12-song collection of dance-pop doesn't exactly show a lot of musical growth since the duo's similar-sounding 1998 breakthrough debut, Hot Show, which has sold an astonishing 400,000 copies in Canada.
But maybe that's the point, given the new album is just more of the continuing Saturday morning cartoon-like adventures of the love-lorn, British-sounding Simon and the Germanic, "euro-rapping" Milo.
Still, the exceptions on Saturday People are the empowerment song, Be As, whose advice to teenagers to "be as white as you want to, be as black as you want to, be as brown as you want to, don't let anybody stop you," is a worthwhile one.
Also good are the school-yard taunt It's Not Me It's You (containing a verse medley from Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy), the bouncy ode to obsession Infatuation and the sexy, Latin-tinged Usted Es Muy Loco.
At times on this album, you start to think the novelty of Prozzak -- Canada's first animated group -- has worn off, but they win over even the most cynical with their sheer likeability.
