A Montreal-born cellist has been named the first Canadian to win the Glenn Gould Foundation's protege prize.
Jean-Guihen Queyras is the winner of the prize, which includes a $10,000 award and a bronze figure of Gould. He will also appear in concert Nov. 24 at the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, along with Pierre Boulez, the sixth Laureate of the International Glenn Gould Prize.
