Red Gone Wild: Thee Album

Six years is an eternity in hip-hop. But it clearly means nothing to Redman.
On his sixth solo set Red Gone Wild: Thee Album -- the long-delayed followup to 2001's underwhelming Malpractice -- New Jersey rapper and actor Reggie Noble makes it clear he has no interest in updating his sound or his style.
This 23-track throwback picks up right where Red left off, with everything you would expect and nothing you wouldn't. You've got production by Timbaland, Pete Rock and Scott Storch. You've got the classic soul samples from Al Green and Curtis Mayfield. You've got the silly, pointless skits. You've got the guest spots by Snoop and Meth and Biz and Erick Sermon and Keith Murray. And of course, you've got Red's goofball, foul-mouthed rhymes about weed and women and rims.
For sure, some of these cuts are killer -- especially early-album tracks like Put it Down and Gimme One. Ultimately, though, they don't justify the six-year wait -- or the 74 minutes it takes to get through this overlong disc.
Speaking of eternities.
