Bidini's 'Hockey' to be made into TV special
By JASON MacNEIL

Rheostatics guitarist Dave Bidini is heading back to the "Tropic Of Hockey," but this time with a camera crew.

Production gets underway on Friday, Jan. 18, on a TV version of Bidini's book "Tropic Of Hockey," which traced the global phenomenon of hockey. The documentary will retrace Bidini's journey across Europe and Asia, in search of hockey in some unlikely places.

Filming is to begin in China, the Rheos' label, Perimeter Records said in a press release.

Meanwhile, "Tropic Of Hockey" will be published in the U.S. in April by Lyon Press. The Rheos' children's album "The Story Of Harmelodia" is also being adapted as a stage play, by Centennial Secondary School Musical Theatre in Belleville, Ont.

Bidini has also been drafted by CBC's Radio One to help judge the radio station's "Big Break" contest. The competition, to recognize the best indie band in Canada, is being sponsored by the Saturday morning show "Definitely Not The Opera." Details can be found at cbc.ca/bigbreak.
