Album Review: Rimes, LeAnn

THIS WOMAN
Learning curve
By -- Winnipeg Sun

LeAnn Rimes
This Woman
(Curb/EMI)

LeAnn Rimes has learned her lesson. After falling flat on her face with a wrong turn into teen-pop on 2002's Twisted Angel, the 22-year-old powerhouse plays it safe on her return CD This Woman.

Beating a hasty retreat to her country-pop comfort zone, Rimes unveils a set of hook-filled ditties straight from the Dixie Chicks' reject pile.

Truth be told, Rimes plays it a little too safe -- these smartly produced tunes are likable and listenable, but too lightweight for a talent of her size.

Ultimately, LeAnn might be better off taking a few more steps backward to the traditional torch 'n' twang of her Blue period.

Guess she still has a few things to learn.
