Stones announce 3 Cdn. dates

Senior Editor, JAM! Showbiz

The Rolling Stones have announced details of their new North American tour, and it includes three Canadian stops.

The trek, which will kick off in Boston on Sept. 20, will makes its way to Halifax's Halifax Commons on Sept. 23, Regina's Mosaic Stadium on Oct. 8 and Vancouver's BC Place on Nov. 3.

Tickets for the Halifax and Regina shows will go on sale on July 31 through all Ticketmaster outlets.

A Vancouver on sale date has yet to be released.

The new dates are part of the Stones' A Bigger Bang tour, which began last August. The band has already played before 4.5-million fans since the tour began.

Other U.S. dates include New York, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Las Vegas.

"We're very excited about coming back to the U.S. and Canada," frontman Mick Jagger said in a statement.

"Most of the shows are going to be on the big stadium stage with fans in the balconies behind us. We're going to play many cities we didn't get to before and also return to some of our favorite places."

Jagger also provided a status report on bandmate Keith Richards, who suffered a head injury in April after falling from a tree while vacationing in Fiji.

"Keith's fine, his head's better, he's playing well and enjoying himself so we're all looking forward to this leg of the tour."

Added Richards: "I'm really happy that we got some more gigs in America and Canada."

"I'm feeling great and can't wait to get there."

Michael Cohl, the Toronto entertainment magnate who is promoting the tour, said that ticket prices would be lowered for the upcoming gigs.

"The return to North America is a celebration of the fact that the most enduring rock 'n' roll band of all time is feeling and sounding better than ever before and are ready to rock," he said.

"To give more fans an opportunity to see the band we're lowering the ticket prices on average 10 to 15 per cent and taking an additional (amount) off tickets for students."

The band promises to have "young, contemporary opening acts" for all dates on the tour.

The Stones played to tens of thousands of fans last summer in Moncton, N.B.
