Album Review: Rollins Band

GET SOME GO AGAIN
By DAVID VEITCH

GET SOME GO AGAIN
Rollins Band
Uni/Dream Works Records (B00004KS3P)

The presence of guest guitarists Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy and Wayne Kramer of The MC5 should be your first clue that Henry Rollins is finally returning to his musical roots. Say goodbye to the technically impressive but ultimately unappealing jazz-metal hybrid of latter-day Rollins Band records. With an all-new group of musicians backing him -- they apparently gig around L.A. under the name Mother Superior -- the brawny frontman has recorded 13 ferocious songs that applies the unrelenting, unruly intensity of The Stooges and MC5 to the sort of gargantuan guitar riffs from which '70s heavy metal was built. Because there are no nods to hip-hop or techno -- which are almost de rigueur among today's heavy-music practitioners -- you'd almost be tempted to call this music old-fashioned, except for the fact that Get Some Go Head makes Kid Rock sound like Hanson.
