DRESSED UP IN NEBRASKA
By FISH GRIWKOWSKY
DRESSED UP IN NEBRASKA Josh Rouse (Slow River Records) Reissued or something like that, this album is worth buying for the first couple songs alone. Suburban Sweetheart is as energetic as a centipede and the title track displays Rouse's ability to mix roots genres and still come up with a good pop album. There's fiddling, then sampling, fast guitar, then slow, rising drumming. Think Wilco, but without the same sense of putting together Lego pieces. Rouse does it all smoothly, like a murderous, tuxedo-wearing werewolf who you can't help but trust. Perfect music for the spring thaw, yearning and also satisfying. Go Josh go, you subtle devil.
