Snooping for Snoop
By MIKE ROSS

EDMONTON -- Prince isn't the only performer fond of the "hit 'n' run" tour, the practice of announcing concerts with ridiculously short notice.

The rapper formerly known as Snoop Doggy Dogg is performing at Cowboys on July 11. Believe it. This is the real Snoop Dogg and not some Snoop Dogg impersonator. He'll have his posse, too, the Dogg Pound, Doggy's Angels and so on. Snoop is touring to support his funky and funny new album, Tha Last Meal. Think Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids as west coast gangstas. Quoth Snoop: "I'm the kind of G everybody knows, but I'm so low-key when it comes to ho's." Hey, hey, hey ...

Dave Urner, co-owner of Cowboys, says the show was just confirmed Saturday. Cowboys in Calgary has Snoop on July 10 as part of the Calgary Stampede - yee-haw meets yo - and strings were pulled to get the award-winning rapper into Edmonton.

"It was a last-minute booking," Urner says, "But I think it will be an absolutely wonderful show, one of the best of the year."

Tickets to Mr. Dogg's performance are $45 and on sale at the club (481-8739) or Ticketmaster (451-8000).
