THA BLUE CARPET TREATMENT
Snoop's on a rollBy DARRYL STERDAN -- Winnipeg Sun
Snoop Dogg Tha Blue Carpet Treatment (Geffen/Universal) Last time we heard from Big Snoop D-O-double-G, he was hanging with Justin Timberlake, sampling Steve Miller and The Bee Gees, and droppin' it like it was hot. And it was very hot -- 2004's Rhythm & Gangsta: The Masterpiece was Snoop's biggest and best album in years. But while you can take the hood out of the 'hood, you can't take the 'hood out of the hood. So on his eighth solo disc Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, Snoop keeps it real. Forget the hit-single samples and guests -- for these 21 cuts, the Dogg gets back in touch with his inner banger. Dishing up nasty, gritty rhymes over low-riding funkadelic grooves by the likes of Dre, Timbaland and The Neptunes, Snoop is joined by a hip-hop Who's Who that includes The Game, George Clinton, Ice Cube, Nate Dogg, D'Angelo and Damien (Jr. Gong) Marley. Highlights include the X-rated B**** I Knew, the XX-rated R. Kelly duet That's That S*** , and the XXX-rated stripper-love Akon cut I Wanna F*** You. All those expletives kinda make you wonder what the G-rated pee-wee football ode Beat Up On Yo Pads and the spiritual Stevie Wonder duet Conversations are doing here. But what really matters is that the old Dogg is here in full effect. And that ensures Tha Blue Carpet Treatment is the second hot number Snoop has dropped in a row. Track Listing:
