PLASTIC FANG
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
(Matador)
Usually after listening to Jon Spencer, you need to take a bath.
He has a way of making you feel so spectacularly soiled and violated that boiling water, a luffa, and -- when he's at his biggest, baddest best -- penicillin is required to scour away the dirty, nasty rock 'n' roll residue he leaves behind.
Though slightly polished and cleaned up itself, Plastic Fang, the latest release from Spencer and his Blues Explosion is still an assaultive boogie-fuelled wall-shaker with enough grit in its funky, riff-filled R&B to leave your ears raw with road rash.
The massive barroom testimonial Hold On, which features Dr. John and Bernie Worrell, the runaway train Point of View, the stalking, purposeful Killer Wolf -- Plastic Fang is a fine and mighty rock 'n' roll record.
Start running that bath.
